Abstract

HERRERA ATEHORTUA, Cenedtih. Operetta in Medellín. The case of the Hispanoamerican Company of Dalmau-Ughetti, 1884-1895. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2011, n.20, pp.133-150. ISSN 0121-8417.

Medellín was, like many growing cities in Colombia and Latin America, a meeting place for entertainment from other countries. Among these the Zarzuela was especially appreciated, a lyric and dramatic genre depicting themes from everyday Spanish life, which in the eyes of the local audiences closely approached their own life. A sure sign of this popularity, apart from press publications, is the file on the falsification of tickets by the Compañía Hispanoamericana de Zarzuela Dalmau-Ughetti, that can be found in the historical legal archives of Medellín, documentary part of this article, and the only one of its kind that is preserved in the archives and, therefore, worth commenting as a source for the history of theatre and entertainment, as well as the subject of the offence of falsification in Medellín.

Keywords : Medellín; Zarzuela; Teatro Principal; falsification of tickets; 19h century.
