Abstract

FRANCO, Luís Fernando. Artisans of Antioquia by the colonnial period's end: a look through the Instrucción General para los Gremios of 1777. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2014, n.26, pp.81-97. ISSN 0121-8417.  https://doi.org/10.15446/hys.n26.44386.

Traditional historiography in Colombia has considered the Instrucción General para los Gremios issued in Bogotá in 1777 as the cornerstone on which the professional lives of craftsmen and their guilds were regulated in the Nuevo Reino de Granada and especially in the Province of Antioquia. However, it is necessary to reassess that statement, because archival research shows that not only existed clear regulations on the exercise of the arts and crafts before but the results of the Instrucción were actually precarious.

Keywords : Craftsmen; Colony; guilds; Antioquia.
