Abstract

ARENAS, H; HOYOS, JA  and  ALZATE, JA. Using 1-34 parathyroid hormone in patients with refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism: Report of 2 cases in the city of Pereira. Revista médica Risaralda [online]. 2016, vol.22, n.2, pp.102-104. ISSN 0122-0667.

Hypoparathyroidism is an abnormality in calcium metabolism characterized by hypocalcemia, elevated serum phosphorus levels and absence or low levels of serum PTH. The most common cause in adults is postsurgical hypoparathyroidism and autoimmune hypoparathyroidism. Clinical manifestations are secondary to hypocalcemia and therefore the therapeutic goal is to maintain thenormocalcemia with the use of calcium in several forms of presentation, vitamin D and thiazide diuretics. In recent years it has been evaluated the use of parathyroid hormone substitution with both PTH 1-34 and PTH 1-84. Two cases of patients with postsurgical hypoparathyroidism which received hormonal substitution with parathyroid hormone 1-34 are presented.

Keywords : Hypoparathyroidism; normocalcemia; parathyroid hormone.
