Abstract

The contents of this article are approached using a metaphor associated with cartography and maritime expeditions. This is done as a literary means that allows one to navigate through some particularities of social intervention with families.
In the document, the transformations that have permeated families in society are resumed, and it is established that human rights and gender are two essential theoretical categories for social work with families. Furthermore, the historical trajectories and the professional intervention scenarios (preventive-promotional, social-educational, socio-therapeutic, socio-legal) that have characterized the professional work of Social Work with families in contemporaneity are covered.
The purpose of the article is to provide a route that allows one to comprehend that attention with families must be based on theoretical-methodological and ethical-political postures defined according to the realities and particularities of each family group being attended to. Let’s set sail!
