Abstract

This article will explore the role played by the Society for Teaching Elementary Primary Popayan (Seepp) in public life, education and political payanesa in the 1830s. The aim is to observe how the association was able to influence the social and political dynamics of the region, building a space for their actions. The association has three main functions: to promote republicanism in the province of Popayan extending it to various social sectors, venture into the field of education for the state to enter the control education and taking the power to go to church, and finally, was the political platform that used local elites to increase their power in the province.
