Abstract

MONTERO ABRIL, Fredy  and  ORTIZ PEREZ, Maira. LIFE CYCLE AND ECOLOGY OF Panyapedaliodes drymaea, HEWITSON 1858. (NYMPHALIDAE: Satyrinae Pronophilina) IN CUNDINAMARCA (COLOMBIA). Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.2, pp.284-296. ISSN 0123-3068.

The immature stages of a species of the Panyapedaliodes (Forster, 1964): Panyapedaliodes drymaea (Hewitson, 1858) genus is described for the first time. The host plant is Poa annua Linnaeus. (Poaceae). The average development time in the laboratory from egg lying to the emergence of adults is 172 days. The presence of conical protrusions (chalazas) in thoracic and abdominal higher instars area and the presence of protrusions in the dorsal zone during the pupa stage are typical characteristic of the species. Adults fly throughout the year in grassland areas and forest clearings. Ethological aspects of larvae and adults are discussed.
