Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Gabriel. DESCRIPTION OF TWO NEW SUBSPECIES OF Catasticta (LEPIDOPTERA: PIERIDAE) FOR COLOMBIA, SOUTH AMERICA. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.1, pp.196-203. ISSN 0123-3068.  https://doi.org/10.17151/bccm.2016.20.1.14.

The primary objective of this work is to describe two new subspecies of butterflies of the Catastica (Lepidoptera: Pieridae) genus: C. cteneme pitalito n. spp., and C. farallonensis cinerea n. ssp,, the first one inhabiting the Western slope of the Eastern Cordillera, while the second is present in the Western Cordillera of Colombia. This contribution certainly enriches the number of Catasticta species known in the country, which have been obtained by manual capture with entomological nets. From the above it is concluded that this gender is one of the most diversified in the Andean region, as constantly new species and subspecies, as the ones described in this study, are discovered.

Keywords : Catasticta ctemene; Catasticta cinerea; Colombia.
