YANEZ-DABDOUB, Macarena and VARGAS-CELIS, Ivonne. HUMANIZED CARE IN PATIENTS WITH LIMITATION OF THERAPEUTIC EFFORT IN INTENSIVE CARE: NURSING CHALLENGES. pers.bioét. [online]. 2018, vol.22, n.1, pp.56-75. ISSN 0123-3122. https://doi.org/10.5294/pebi.2018.22.1.5.
In intensive care units (ICU) the health team uses all possible measures to preserve the lives of their patients. However, when the therapies are futile, it is decided to limit the therapeutic effort (LET). The objective of this paper is to describe the factors that can lead to nursing to dehumanize their care in patients in LET in ICU. Review of the literature in databases, using the keywords: critical care, intensive care unit, limitation of therapeutic effort, end of life care, humanized / human care, nursing. Results: the findings were grouped into 6 categories that can influence the dehumanization of ICU care. In humanized care the roles of nursing as defender of the patient’s interests and as a communicating agent stand out.
Keywords : Critical care; nursing care; therapeutic limitation; dehumanization (Source: DeCS).
