Abstract

CORREA-OLARTE, María Ximena. Current status of the process of outer space territorialization in Colombia and recommendations for its consolidation. Perspectiva Geográfica [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.1, pp.147-160. ISSN 0123-3769.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the lack of a consolidated process of outer space territorialization in Colombia and to make recommendations from Geography that allow initiating this process. Extra-atmospherical space is that fringe of outer space, in which artificial satellites orbit around Earth and is farther away than the airspace of each state. In this space, only States with technological development and significant investment capacity in space areas make use of this, territorializing it. In this paper, the importance of raising awareness of the use and occupation of this space, the enactment of laws and policies under a consolidated Colombian legal framework, and technical-scientific and academic development, is emphasized in order to initiate a process of outer space territorialization in Colombia.

Keywords : artificial satellites; Colombia; outer space law; territorialization of outer space.
