Abstract

Depression symptoms associated to teachers' burnout syndrome and social and job characteristics in public schools in Envigado (Colombia). The main aim of this study is to assess teachers' depression symptoms in public schools in Envigado (Colombia) and their association with burnout-syndrome and social and job characteristics. Participants were 194 teachers selected by proportionate stratified random probability sampling. SCL-90-R to evaluate depression symptoms, Maslach Burnout Inventory, and a demographic survey were also used. The results show that 65,8% teachers have depression symptoms and multivariate model identified that burnout syndrome emotional exhaustion component increases the depression symptoms in teachers (OR=4,0, IC=1,67-9,58). The study concluded that the depression is in teachers of high prevalence.
