Abstract

SANCHEZ, Iván Darío; JULIAO ROSSI, Jorge Luís  and  ZULUAGA JIMENEZ, Julio César. The relationship between external networks and innovator performance of SMEs in Colombia: an analysis of moderator role of industrial environment. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.128, pp.339-349. ISSN 0123-5923.

The results of researches that have analyzed the relationship between networks and innovator performance of organizations have been inconsistent. This paper helps to clarify this situation, analyzing the moderator role of environmental munificence on this relationship. In a sample of 4,133 Colombian SMEs and making use of a Zero-Inflated Poisson model, a positive relationship was found between networks and innovation, and a negative one between munificence and innovation. Contrarily to what was hoped, it was found that when munificence was higher, the relationship between networks and innovation was stronger. These findings highlight the strategic value of networks in the context of SMEs' innovation process, and the idiosyncratic character of this process in a developing country like Colombia.

Keywords : Networks; Innovation; Munificence; SMEs.
