Abstract

LOPEZ MORALES, José Satsumi  and  ORTEGA RIDAURA, Isabel. The presence of international expansion in the mission and vision of major Latin American private and state companies. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2016, vol.32, n.140, pp.269-277. ISSN 0123-5923.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.estger.2016.06.005.

This paper seeks to identify the presence of international expansion (IE) in the strategic approaches of the Latino firms in the ranking 'The 500 largest companies in Latin America.' To reach this aim, a qualitative content analysis technique of the mission and vision present in their web pages was used. A total of 232 Latino businesses that made these approaches explicit were identified (200 private and 32 state); and it was found that more than half of these companies (51.7%) did not mention the IE; 25.4% do so only when talking about vision and just 13.4% when talking about mission and vision. If we establish differences on the basis of property type, we see that 46% of private companies and 62.5% of state consider IE in its mission and/or vision.

Keywords : International expansion; Latin America; Mission; Vision; Strategic approach.
