Abstract

CABRERA HANNA, Santiago. Quito's Historical Center in the Urban Planning (between 1942-1992). Discourses of Cultural Heritage, Spatial Transformations and Sociocultural Displacements. Territ. [online]. 2017, n.36, pp.189-215. ISSN 0123-8418.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/territorios/a.5249.

Abstract This contribution analyses the authorized discourse of cultural heritage about Quito's historical center, throughout its place in the urban planning. From the first documents prepared by Guillermo Jones Odriozola in the 1940s to the most reflexive considerations about the relationship between the cultural architectural heritage management, and its habitants. This relation focuses in the process of social integration, segregation and gentrification, justified in the 1990s urban regeneration and conservation paradigms.

Keywords : Quito; urban planning; cultural heritage; municipalities; territory; monumentalism.
