Abstract

PAMPLONA SIERRA, Maria José  and  PIEDRAHITA BUSTAMANTE, Pedro. The right to the city in agglomerations: views from Latin America. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.73-85.  Epub Sep 21, 2021. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v31n2.89561.

The present article examines the Latin American scientific production about the right to the city concerning urban conurbations. For this purpose, the discussion has three conceptual approaches: the right to the city, the urban agglomeration, and the urban government. The results show the lack of theoretical and empirical researches about the topic and how the municipalities' governments still manage their issues without taking into consideration situations outside their borders. In conclusion, it is necessary to guarantee urban rights through the coordination and cooperation of municipal entities that create agglomerations.

Keywords : Human Rights; urban population; urbanization; local government.
