Abstract
ROJO-MENDOZA, Félix. Spatial tastes and residential expectations in Chile: the principle of the right to housing. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.87-99. Epub Sep 23, 2021. ISSN 0124-7913. https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v31n2.89491.
The article explores the residential expectations of the inhabitants of Temuco, one of the most important intermediate cities in Chile. The symbolic devices linked to the idea of housing are analyzed, thereby determining the discursive differences between upper, middle and lower classes. Considering the changes in the forms of production of current capitalism, the creation of new social classes and the early introduction of the idea of own housing in Chile, the assumption raised by Bourdieu, regarding the degree of correspondence between the capitals of a person and the projection of a particular spatial taste on the city, is relativized. Recognizing five different sectors of Temuco in socio-spatial terms and using the Grounded Theory as a methodological strategy to analyze 30 interviews conducted, the results indicate that the principle of property over housing operates as the central foundation of residential expectation, independent of class social of the person.
