BORRE-ORTIZ, Yeis Miguel et al. Characterization of nursing programs in Colombia. Investig. andina [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.31, pp.1418-1432. Epub Sep 21, 2016. ISSN 0124-8146.
Objective:
To characterize nursing programs that are offered in the universities of Colombia.
Methodology:
Descriptive exploratory study, cross-sectional, in which information from 64 nursing programs that are active in the national system of higher education, ministry of education was collected. Similarly, the curricula of different universities that offer training in nursing were selected for analysis. The information was processed in Microsoft Excel, using descriptive statistics for univariate analysis, and keeping the relevant ethical and methodological rigor.
Results:
In addition to the descriptive results of characterization, 3 components formed by a set of subjects that cross curricula were identified: (a) basic discipline training, (b) specific vocational training, and (c) vocational complementary training. These three components are linked to the training components in basic and natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, general and communicative competence, and flexible component, which ultimately help set the profile of nursing.
Discussion:
The characteristics of the nursing programs offered at universities in Colombia are consistent with the provisions of the national education system with international standards. However, in terms of the curriculum, it is necessary that some aspects of content to be strengthened so that the curriculum can be potentiated and achieve the longed local, regional, national and international impact.
