The aim of this paper  is to present  an analysis of the criteria considered  by entrepreneurs to achieve business growth from the strategies of market penetration, market development and product development in small and medium enterprises in Santiago de Cali - Colombia, from the resource-based perspective. In terms of methodology, a diagnosis through  a questionnaire, in which 27 criteria that represent indicators of growth strategies that can be implemented by SMEs from resource-based perspective were selected is made; these criteria fall within the strategies of market penetration, market development and product development. The results indicate that entrepreneurs of SMEs studied, do not use the resources to "spare capacity" to invest in new areas of opportunity to guide business growth.
