Abstract

SCHULLER, Jon A.; HEVIA, Samuel A.  and  SCHULLER, Iván K.. THE NEW FRONTIERS OF CONDENSED MATTER PHYSICS. Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. [online]. 2013, vol.37, n.145, pp.463-468. ISSN 0370-3908.

Condensed matter physics is the basis for many fundamental ideas in science and the origin for a countless number of applications, which affect our daily life. Nanoscience has produced new materials with functionalities, which don't exist in nature. Quantum computing takes advantage of the superposition of quantum states to produce unexpected phenomena and for the simulation of complex systems. Metamaterials form a class of synthetic materials with optical properties unlike anything found in nature.

Keywords : nanoscience; quantum computing; metamaterials.
