Structure and composition of the ichthyofauna present in the lower section of the Córdoba River, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in the Colombian Caribbean. Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. We analyzed here the structure and composition of the ichthyofauna present in the lower reaches of the Córdoba River in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), Colombian Caribbean. To determine the composition and the possible structure patterns, we analyzed the relationship between the fish, the substrate, and the physicochemical parameters during the two climatic seasons using Hill numbers, species distribution models, principal component analysis (PCA), and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). We collected samples of individuals from 11 orders, 14 families, 20 genera, and 27 freshwater, estuarine, and marine species. The most abundant orders were the Perciformes, Gobiiformes, and Characiformes while Cichlidae and Characidae were the most representative families. We report the presence of Ctenolucius hujeta, Geophagus steindachneri, Hypostomus hondae, Sturisomatichthys panamense, Apteronotus rostratus, and Kronoheros umbrifer that are distributed in Colombia in the Magdalena and Cauca Rivers. As for the composition and richness of species in the SNSM rivers, we report about 28 (42%) of the species described for an only river thus doubling previous reports.
