Abstract

OSORIO-SALAZAR, Leonardo Enrique. Tensions and depictions in the outline of a multipurpose urban space in the historic sector of Tunja. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.2, pp.47-57.  Epub Feb 04, 2022. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2021.3541.

This paper aims to highlight the tensions displayed in the inherited urban space in Tunja during the process of the city's modernization in the first half of the 20th century in contrast with the symbolic system of the colonial order in the 16th century. The research model has a qualitative approach with an inductive perspective that involved the collection of visual and documentary sources of information, map analysis, aerial photographs and photographs of that period, which were contextualized with historiographic sources and systematized to determine the significance categories: urban and cultural memory, urban regulation, modernization of architecture and urban planning, and daily life of the city. The result allowed the understanding of these architectural characteristics of the multipurpose urban space, made up of different layers, with historical values and functions deeply related to the cultural memory of the city.

Keywords : cultural memory; memory politics; urban development; urban history; urban tensions.
