Abstract

GAVIRIA-PUERTA, Nino. Incidences of urban art in the configuration of the city. The case of Medellin, Colombia. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.2, pp.27-36.  Epub Nov 24, 2022. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2022.24.3475.

The implications that social processes have on graphic, pictorial or typographic interventions reflected in public space in the city of Medellin, shape strategies that contribute to its physical and symbolic configuration. Complementarily, there is the question of the resulting image of public space, which, molded from such interventions, enables the emergence of a live and vibrant urban landscape, in which the proliferation of images of all kinds abounds on its walls, its streets, its neighborhoods and its communes. Methodologically, the issue of graphic interventions in public space involves the collection of information and subsequent analysis, through mapping the places where they are presented, the techniques used, the authors, the strategies and the programs. Observations and descriptions of public spaces are combined with photographic surveys of them. Interviews with the authors of the works in public spaces, with promoters and curators of urban art, are also used to elucidate the motivations that give rise to this type of performance. Finally, the field work is complemented with bibliographic searches in various sources about phenomena such as graffiti, urban art, the phenomenology of perception, public space and urban landscape in the contemporary city.

Keywords : graffiti; landscape; pop art; social movement; urban space.
