Abstract
GUERRA, Yolanda M.. OLD AGE, AGING AND EUGENICS IN COLOMBIA. rev.latinoam.bioet. [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.2, pp.140-161. ISSN 1657-4702. https://doi.org/10.18359/rlbi.1697.
The article is associated with the research of the Faculty Hum 2033, "Old age and the process of aging". The methodology of the research is a documentary, an interpretative because documents of XIX and XX centuries were studied. Documents that have speeches about the degeneration of the Colombian race, either aging or sickness and race, weather and culture. This research finds that Colombia has been one of the first countries in the world to enact eugenic standards (1917) long before even Germany, which began with the eugenic standards with Hitler since 1931. These eugenic ideas planted by Darwin and Galton (1890) in the Colombian academics, had an enormous importance in Colombia. They sowed in the culture and idiosyncrasy of the ordinary citizen seeds of discrimination towards neighbors, based on skin color, age, disability, gender, religion, race, political beliefs and other aspects.
Keywords : Old age; aging; degeneration; eugenics; biopolitics; hygienism.
