Abstract
BRAVO, Marcelo-Archibaldo; GONZALEZ BETANZOS, Fabiola; CASTILLO NAVARRO, Álvaro and PADROS BLAZQUEZ, Ferrán. Evidence of validity of the spanish version of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN). Univ. Psychol. [online]. 2017, vol.16, n.2, pp.152-163. ISSN 1657-9267. https://doi.org/10.11144/javeriana.upsy16-2.evvi.
The aim of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), in Mexican samples. The participants comprised university students, patients diagnosed with social anxiety and patients with generalized anxiety disorder. The SPIN demonstrated high internal consistency, good test-retest reliability, and adequate convergent and discriminate validity. Different models of the internal structure were tested, result showed better adjustment for the three correlated factor model. Analysis of ROC curves indicated that the SPIN is able to discriminate between social anxiety and generalized anxiety disorders; a cutoff of 25 represented the best balance between sensitivity and specificity. It is possible to conclude that the Spanish version of the SPIN demonstrated solid psychometric properties, and thus it could potentially be used as a screening tool for detecting social anxiety disorder in the Mexican population.
