Abstract

This article pertains to the historical aspects of research, education, training, and technology transfer of the architecture and earth construction. The first part of this article presents a summary of the background of the construction techniques, the research involving this subject, as well as some of the entities that have collaborated with the technological development in Ibero-America; it also presents the technological progress throughout time, focusing on its guidelines. The second part of this article displays peculiarities of the educational system, differentiating formal education and training, and correlates important educational centers that have contributed for the education of professionals in Latin America. This article also presents a summary of the work performed by Cyted, as well as the contribution by the Project and by the Ibero-american network Proterra in the technology transfer. Finally, this article reflects upon the technology transfer and, based on the background from the authors and the Proterra work, prioritizes the characteristics of the transfer team, presenting a brief description of this team.
