This paper presents the results obtained for the properties of adobes, physical, mechanical and chemical, which are essential for understanding the adobe as a structural material and essential for its earthquake-resistant evaluation. The characterization of the material was initially a pilot phase on similar patrimonial adobe specimens (of about 300 year-old structures). Later it became an analytical evaluation which compared the results obtained with those of other researchers, both in Colombia and the rest of Latin America. Finally, a methodological guide and a characterization sheet were developed and it is expected that they will be useful for future studies of constructive, structural and earthquake resistant building systems of heritage value and interest constructions. For raw land, adobe and other modalities construction systems, present in cultural assets, particularly religious architecture (doctrineros chapels and temples), it is imperative to study rehabilitation procedures with techniques and materials aimed at improving the conditions of their behavior facing the effects of structural seismic activity and natural deterioration.
