Abstract
TAMAYO ALZATE, Oscar Eugenio and SANMARTI P, Neus. Estudio multidimensional de las representaciones mentales de los estudiantes. Aplicación al concepto de respiración. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2003, vol.1, n.1, pp.181-205. ISSN 1692-715X.
A study of the mental representations about the respiration concept was made with 21 students from 17 to 18 years old (first high school degree of the Spanish educational system). Data was analyzed in order to obtain a better knowledge of the epistemologic, ontologic and cognitive-linguistic aspects of the students' mental representations. The integration of these three dimensions of analysis led us to construct multidimensional mental representations concerning the respiration concept. From the epistemological perspective, the texts, written by the students, were classified according to the different explanatory paradigms of the respiration concept. The ontological analysis led us to identify the main conceptions of the students about the selected concept. The cognitive-linguistic analysis allowed us to identify the kind of discourse made by the students as well as its content and coherence. As a whole, the multidimensional analysis allowed us to identify some of the obstacles the participating students should face to comprehend the respiration concept.
