Abstract

School interactions have the potential to promote students' moral development, in a context of moral crisis which goes beyond local situations. This essay refers initially to the crisis of the moral sense in Western cultures, from the point of view of the socialization process. It proposes a renewal of educational processes in moral education, emphasizing the importance of moral autonomy. This proposal aims at the formation of citizens capable of constructing a just and equitable society which includes those who have been historically excluded. The conceptual framework of the proposal is the theory of cognitive development and a consideration of moral sentiments.
