Abstract

MORA ANTO, Adriana  and  ROJAS MARTINEZ, Alba Luz. Estilo de funcionamiento familiar, pautas de crianza y su relación con el desarrollo evolutivo en niños con bajo peso al nacer. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2005, vol.3, n.1, pp.181-212. ISSN 1692-715X.

This research dealt with the relationship among styles of familial functioning, patterns of child rearing, and developmental ages of children who registered low birth weight. The descriptive and correlational study was done with 41 children and their mothers, applying questionnaires regarding familial functioning, child rearing practices and early childhood development. The results signaled the existence of a familial function characterized by amalgamated cohesion and chaotic adaptability, complacent discipline, and a lack of control and of clear limits in the mother-child dyad. The study dealt with single-parent families where the constants were: conception at an early age, single motherhood and an extended family support system. In the majority of the cases, the developmental ages registered indicated a phase of development inferior to chronological age. For some of the age ranges considered, a significant statistical co-relation between the developmental ages and the different factors of familial functioning was not found; however, the conjectured relationship was not abandoned completely, especially with reference to familial optimism.

Keywords : Family; Familial Functioning; Child Rearing Guidelines; Evolutionary Development; Low Birth Weight; Infant Abuse; Intrafamilial Violence.
