Abstract

CASTILLO GARCIA, José Rubén. The configuration of citizenships in undergraduate students in Manizales (Colombia). Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.2, pp.755-809. ISSN 1692-715X.

This research project uses the cultural perspective in its analysis, because it was considered necessary in order to approach the complex and difficult topic of youth citizenships, specifically, in undergraduate students. The purpose was to differentiate the collective imaginaries from the social representations found in the discourses and narratives used by young men and women. These discourses and narratives are read from the point of view of their social practices. This is one of the central interests of this work. The paper proposes that citizenship can be understood from the way it acquires a presence and turns into a figure. The paper proposes a conceptual perspective called «configuration of citizenship», which has not been used in previous studies, at least not in the sense it is used here. This perspective makes it posible to identify the categories of institution, constitution and construction of citizenships, used in the analysis of social practices. This leads to an interpretation of social practices which takes into account the collective imaginaries and the social representations, and the institution, the constitution and the construction of citizenships.

Keywords : Citizenship; Configuration of citizenship; Institution of citizenship; Construction of citizenship; Undergraduate men and women; Collective imaginaries; Social representations; Youth cultures; Colombia.
