Abstract
OSPINA H, Carlos Alberto and BOTERO GOMEZ, Patricia. Aesthetics, narrative and the construction of the public sphere. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.2, pp.811-840. ISSN 1692-715X.
This paper discusses the political potential of narrative. It shows the way in which Modernity presented a model of rational knowledge that denied the value of the subjective sphere, considered as emotional. This denial of the subjective resulted in its banishment to the private life of individuals. On the basis of some proposals in Hanna Arendts philosophy, the paper proposes narrative as an alternative to the recovery of subjective existence, its place in the world, and its character as a means to construct the public sphere through the recognition of the leading role of subjectivity. The relationship between the private or subjective realm and the public sphere is established from the point of view of Kantian aesthetic judgment and its claim to universal acceptance.
