Abstract
MALDONADO GONZALEZ, Zulay and GUERRERO CONTRERAS, Doris. Traveling the way to the reconstruction of the written language with the mochila mágina (magic rucksack). Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, pp.971-988. ISSN 1692-715X.
Reading and writing are sine qua non processes in the knowledge and information age that the society is undergoing nowadays. Nevertheless, studies, statistics and reports show that there are a great number of people who are not endowed with these basic competences to be able to respond to personal, labor and professional demands effectively. As a result, Mochila Mágica emerges as a reading promotion program that aims at awakening the pleasure and love for children's reading from their earliest age. Through the active loan and updating activities this program becomes a support for teachers, parents and other adults with a significant role in the early literacy process. To define its effectiveness, Angostura Congress Childhood Garden of the Municipality of San Cristóbal, Province of Táchira, Venezuela was selected as the scenario for its implementation. A qualitative research, based upon the theoretical contributions of psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, Vigotsky's historical cultural perspective and the latest research studies in Neuroscience, was conducted. Significant results were obtained after a year of continued and systematic intervention. The program has been implemented for 10 years, with the aim to develop social awareness about the importance of reading as a thought tool that opens new ways towards the exercise of freedom, knowledge itself and the respect for life.
