Abstract

ALVAREZ RAMIREZ, Leonardo Yovany; SALDANA, Carola; MUNOZ ARDILA, Julie Andrea  and  PORTELA MEZA, Viviana. Assertiveness, listening and tackling the critique from street adolescents. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, suppl.1, pp.1535-1543. ISSN 1692-715X.

The aim of this study is to strengthen the development of assertive defense skills of rights, effective listening and response to critique, in a group of street adolescents (20 per gender) in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia. A pre-experimental design of just one group with pre- and post-intervention measures was followed, and a Likert Scale before and after the training was also applied. This procedure included four 120-minute weekly working sessions for a year. The statistical data were processed with Spss software, version 13.0. The results show an intervention effectiveness with a Social Skills t score (t=-4.1), greater than expected t (2.0), with p=0.0003. This is a study with a preliminary scope which requires an experimental work which can attribute the changes to the executed program in a definite way.

Keywords : social skills; assertiveness; adolescents.
