Abstract

LOPEZ-CABELLO, Arcelia Salome. Punk Music as a formative identity space among Mexican young people. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.1, pp.185-197. ISSN 1692-715X.

This article explores, from the perspective of political analysis of discourse, the testimonies of two generations of young Mexican punks where music represents a discursive configuration in which the identities never manage to be fully fixed. Punk music challenges them from the sonority to the quality of its lyrics, which mark their position in comparison with others, and gives them tools to recognize their being in the world, and to take on new notions of political, social and culture. So for these punks, music is sound but also the possibility to access new experiences of thought and allow their reality to be questioned.

Keywords : music; young people; cultural identity.
