Objectives: To understand the dimensions and aspects related to quality of life: to identify the perceptions, assessments, aspirations, feelings and wishes of participating boys and girls in relation to the objective and subjective conditions of their daily lives; to describe the aspects identified by the boys and girls as indicators of wellbeing or discomfort. Scope: A pioneer study that usesd the qualitative epistemological approach in quality-of-life research. Method: Case study participatory techniques (games-based reflexive workshop, round table discussion, semistructured interview, focus groups) and processing information through thematic analysis. Results: The participating boys and girls associate their quality of life with positive and negative experiences based on existing material conditions, family, friendships, school life, public recognition, rights, the use of technologies and global satisfaction. Conclusions: This study involved the incorporation of a more complex and integral approach to children’s quality of life research, reaffirms the need and the possibilities to consider boys and girls as research subjects per se and identifies each of the dimensions and experiences that generate welfare and discomfort and can inform promotion and prevention programs in social and State organizations that are responsible for childhood development.
