Abstract

Objective: The purpose of our study in the Kennedy Hospital is the determination of predictive factors of aggravating illness in community acquired pneumonia (CAP) for prevention of admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods: We realize a retrospective case-control study taken 43 patients for the cases group, this patients was in the ICU between the January 1 of 2000 to July 30 of 2002; and 128 patients for the controls group, this other patients was in the hospital for pneumonia in the same time and was cured for the same doctors but them was fine in few time. Results: We find that un adequate clinic examinations of the patients with pneumonia we can observed clinics sign that: Media Blood Pressure<65, temperature< 37.5, confusion or decreased level of consciousness, the bilateral affectation in the X rays with effusion or without and the respiratory rate >30. Observing the last sings and the correct intervention is possible to prevent the aggravating of the patient and your admission to ICU. Conclusion: The American Thoracic Society realized similar investigations in the United States, but is necessary to repeat in our populations the same studies for to compare the obtaining information.
