Abstract

This paper aims to determine the existence of women's occupational discrimination "glass ceiling effect" through the analysis of a probabilistic model for the period between 1984 and 2010, descriptively analyzing the possible factors influencing women to not reach management positions are usually held by men. Thus, assessing the level of gender discrimination in senior positions, estimating a model "Probit", by which validated the employment situation of women in the seven metropolitan areas (Manizales, Bogota, Cali, Bucaramanga, Medellín, Pasto and Barranquilla), and from which, it was established that there is an invisible barrier explained by the prejudices of the employer man who does not allow women to achieve these positions.
