Abstract
SEVILLA SOLER, Rosario. The "disaster" at the Andalusian print media: Press and public opinion against the war in Cuba. memorias [online]. 2014, n.23, pp.1-25. ISSN 1794-8886.
Through the examination of various local but far-reaching Sevillian periodicals and other contemporaries printed sources, this article focuses on the role played by the press in shaping public opinion on the verge of the loss of last Spanish colonies. It first analyses how the Andalusian common people, the one truly affected by the war, perceived these events through the press, which was the only available media to be informed about what was happening on the other side of the ocean. And, secondly, it aims to discern whether the newspapers limited themselves to report news or, in a time when the free press offered a unique opportunity for the public opinion to express itself through its pages, the different social, political and economic groups involved tried to shape a particular view about this topic
Keywords : Cuban Independence; International relationship; public opinion.
