Abstract

This article proposes a discussion on the relationship between modern architecture of the 2nd half of the twentieth century and the urban context constructed in the cities of the Colombian Caribbean. The approach is made from the history and methodology is based on desk research, the data are analyzed from the hermeneutic approach. The reflection derived from the research project Practices and ideas in the architecture of the Colombian Caribbean through the work of Ujueta, Cepeda, Delgado and Hernandez. As a result, they identify two sets of practices and ideas about the relationship of new buildings with the city built, the first focused on the architectural projection singular objects unrelated to the surrounding context, and second that identifies with the idea of evaluate, preserve and be consonant with the structure of the place.
