Abstract

MORALES PEREZ, Donají. Haití: el viaje en prosa de Truman Capote. memorias [online]. 2017, n.31, pp.73-95. ISSN 1794-8886.

Abstract In 1948, when Truman Capote was twenty three years old and had just published the novel that launched him to fame, he made a trip to Haiti. His arrival coincided with the scenario of the post-war period, the change in the relationship with the United States and what is known as the golden years of Haiti when the primitive art of the place captured international interest. As a result of this experience, Capote wrote a story which in turn resulted in a musical that allows to establish a link between the life and the work of this writer with the Caribbean. In the distance, a letter and the commissioning of a short story that gave rise to that trip combined with literary production to show not only the scope of the facts but the way in which the world was next and was smaller than what had been until then.

Keywords : Truman Capote; travel; Haiti; musical; literature; turism; post-war.
