Abstract

VALERO, SILVIA  and  RAMOS, ERICK. Amir Smith Córdoba and Negritud Magazine (1976). Counterpoints for the Place of the Black in History. memorias [online]. 2020, n.42, pp.146-167.  Epub Oct 28, 2021. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.42.326.

The objective of this article is to elucidate the debate promoted by some Colombian intellectuals and academics of the 1970s, in relation to the place of black in historical discourse. Understanding that the history / blackness binomial were inseparable in the discussion, the emerging plurisignification of the different sectors of the field will be analyzed. For this, the magazine Negritud and other writings of the Choir sociologist Amir Smith Córdoba and its dialogue with the intellectual field of the time will be explored, particularly with the conceptions of blackness and the New Colombian History. It will be evidenced that Smith Córdoba's view of history is close to that of an instrumentalization of it for the achievement of a racial conscience that, as a final political action, promotes the self-recognition of Black. To do this, rather than taking slavery as the axis and starting point, the emphasis placed on the autonomy of black throughout history will be based.

Keywords : History; blackness; Amir Smith Córdoba; Negritud; Presencia Negra.
