Abstract

JAQUE, Natalia Urra. "Zecilia, Josepha and Maria": everyday life and experiences before the Holy Office of Lima, 1680-1702. memorias [online]. 2022, n.47, pp.64-84.  Epub Aug 03, 2022. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.47.133.41.

Through the following writing we will study and analyze three inquisitorial proceedings against women belonging to the estates of the city of Lima. Between 1680 and 1702 Zecilia, Josepha and Maria were tried. All three were condemned for idolaters, making a pact with the devil and performing sorcery. However, this proposal will delve into the confessions and testimonies that they delivered to the Holy Office, which, by way of example, represented the shortcomings, limitations and survival strategies that they used. With such discourses we will reconstruct those experiences that illustrate their daily lives as individual subjects, but at the same time the characteristic dynamics of the society with which they lived.

Keywords : Daily life; experiences; Holy Office ofLima; sorceresses.
