Abstract
NAVA MORALES, Elena. Radio Totopo and its Young People: Community Institutions and Resistance Processes. Antipod. Rev. Antropol. Arqueol. [online]. 2015, n.23, pp.89-113. ISSN 1900-5407. https://doi.org/10.7440/antipoda23.2015.05.
In this article I explore the practices of Zapoteco youth associated with Radio Totopo in order to understand the processes of their resistance. Radio Totopo, which operates in the municipality of Juchitán de Zaragoza (Oaxaca, Mexico) turned out to be a community institution that is profoundly linked to the people of the neighborhood where it is located. This community radio station, which we have approached ethnographically, provides us with some core topics for analysis, including indigenous youth, community media, the paradoxical laws referring to the administration of radio broadcasting space in Mexico, the megaprojects for development that threaten the life of indigenous peoples, and the sophisticated forms of political and cultural resistance of the Zapotecos.
