Abstract
LUZIO QUIROGA, Álvaro; GUTIERREZ SILVA, Mauricio and TAPIA ERCOLI, Mario. Acanthomatous ameloblastoma in a dog: a case report. Ces. Med. Vet. Zootec. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.1, pp.110-115. ISSN 1900-9607.
The case of a canine is described, male, of 10 years of age, which presents to consult with a mandibular gingival mass, at the base of the left canine. By clinical examination a unique, proliferative, irregular, delimited lession was observed, with a volumen of 3x2x1cm. The biochemical profiles and blood count were normal. An incisional biopsy was made, through which acanthotic ameloblastoma was diagnosed, benign neoplasia, invasive and highly recurrent. A rostral hemimandibulectomy (left-sided) with wide margins was determined as treatment. The patient presented a favorable evolution without observable recurrence after one year. Even though this is a neoplasia that represents 18% of oral tumors in canines, few reports in veterinary medicine are available, being the aim of the present work to describe the diagnosis and treatment of such pathology in a dog.
