Abstract
GOMEZ, Carlos; JIMENEZ, Héctor and ULLOA, Jorge Hernando. Nomenclature of the inferior limbs veins and terms used in phlebology: the international consensus. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.2, pp.139-145. ISSN 2011-7582.
Vascular Surgery societies have reviewed venous anatomical terms during the last decade, because with the advent of duplex ultrasound the understanding of both the anatomical and the physiological concepts need to be rewritten. Instead of being just mirror images of the arterial system, veins are complex, highly variable vessels. We present a comprehensive review of the different international consensus that should be learned in medical school, as well as in graduate programs and postgraduate courses for a better understanding at international settings.
Keywords : veins; lower extremity; anatomy; terminology.
