Abstract

SCIURANO, Guido. Sociology of a Genius Revisited: Analyzing, Once Again, Mozart's Vital Path. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2020, n.24, pp.46-61.  Epub May 16, 2021. ISSN 2011-804X.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ppo.num24-10624.

This paper aims to describe and understand the social and personal factors that molded Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's subjectivity. With that objective, the text establishes a dialogue with Norbert Elias's seminal work Mozart Sociology of a genius (1991), and enables to rethink some consolidated hypothesis, especially the one that explains the emptiness of social existence feeling by referring to the historical time Mozart was born. As a result of a historic analysis and two case studies of musicians from that historical period (Hándel and Haydn), we are able to put in value the decisive role of contingency in the explanation of the artist's course.

Keywords : sociology of a genius; Mozart; feeling of social emptiness; contingency..
