Abstract

This article presents the findings concerning the research work "Agency, policy and culture in the Afro-Colombian community in the 19 in Oasis suburb in Altos de Cazucá, organization systems and social visibility", where the main idea is to comprehend what are the agency processes and how they emerge in the community leaders. For data collection it was used the semi-structured interview, the observation and the field diary. The analysis method used was the theory-based. In the investigative process, it was found that the limit situations they go through in any moment in their lives, become a kind of detonator to achieve the agency. At the same time, it showed that the agency in the community leaders is given in two big lines: the first one is the need to have an impact and being represented in public policies. The second one is about achieve a cultural visibility that contributes to be treated as an Afro community under the same conditions and without racial discrimination treatments.
