Abstract

VERANO-CAMAYO, Cristian Andrés. Memories and Narratives: An Approach to the Biographical Experience of Colombian Children. Aleth. rev. desarro. hum. educ. soc. contemp. [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.2, pp.16-35. ISSN 2145-0366.

The objective of the following article is to attempt an interpretation of narratives from Colombian school children. These narrations are based on children's self-awareness. To accomplish this, we first created a theoretical review around three main concepts: memories, narratives, and experiences. Second, we present a qualitative methodology with a hermeneutical focus. This approach allowed us to provide an environment where children could express themselves in such a way, that it was possible for them to articulate their senses and find meaning in past experiences. Finally, we present the findings across three different themes: i) networks and vital reinterpretations; ii) biographical value in objects that made them remember something; iii) narratives in metaphorical conflicts and outbursts. To analyze the information, we used concepts proposed by Arfuch (2013) which allowed us to identify how children perceived themselves and others. These views are transmitted through a language marked by their emotions and feelings in how they reminisce the past.

Keywords : Narrations; autobiography; memory; experience.
