Abstract

NINO-MUNOZ, Diana; DIAZ-LOPEZ, Erika; RICAURTE-PARRADO, Beatriz  and  VILLALOBOS-ARANGO, Elbers. Human Development in Districts Within Bogota and Its Relationship with Family Structures. Aleth. rev. desarro. hum. educ. soc. contemp. [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.2, pp.242-269. ISSN 2145-0366.

The family is the first agent of socialization responsible for multiple functions within it. Furthermore, the family is a social institution that can influence its environment by improving the quality of life of society and therefore it has become an emerging concern for some public policies. From this perspective, the study of family structures allows an approximation to this social reality. In this way, the purpose of this research is to clarify if any family structure is presented as a possible necessary condition related to a higher quality of life in Bogotá's districts, between 2011 and 2014. To reach it, a comparative analysis of similarities and differences proposed by (Ragin, 2007) and a georeferenced analysis were carried out in order to identify possible patterns. The results show that there is a possible, but not sufficient, relationship between a worse evolution of poverty and an increase in single-parent family structures. This validates the used methodology, but it requires a subsequent study that includes other factors besides family structure.

Keywords : Family structures; quality of life; human development.
