The article analyzes the processes of modernization in the city of Uruapan (México) in the mid-twentieth century. These are the years of urbanization, the increasing industrialization in its different stages, and the growing importance of the services of the national economy. But, they are also the so-called "Mexican Miracle" decades, in which a transition towards modernization starts. The central questions of this text are: How state, business, and social actions were constituted as a modernizing forces, and, What were the policies and urbanization projects, that reveal this modernizing trend locally?.
