Abstract
BALCERO-MOLINA, Anlly Liced; GABALAN-COELLO, Jesús and VASQUEZ-RIZO, Fredy Eduardo. Quality Assurance System for Higher Education: shortcomings and proposal for improvement. Prax. Saber [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.34, pp.39-57. Epub Mar 09, 2023. ISSN 2216-0159. https://doi.org/10.19053/22160159.v13.n34.2022.14084.
This article highlights some shortcomings of the Quality Assurance System for Higher Education in Colombia. Three complementary types of analysis were conducted: documentary, statistical, and perceptual. Based on the review of the concept of quality associated with higher education and its relevance in the assurance process, it was found that, even though the system fulfills its mission of promoting and monitoring the quality of higher education, this could be accomplished in a better way. Therefore, a proposal for improvement is put forward, which emphasizes the need to carry out three strategies: (1) updating and improving the quality evaluation criteria; (2) restructuring the processes and administrative structure of the system; and (3) implementing the Academic Peer Training School. The intention is to ensure that the system articulates its components in a more effective and efficient way, in order to respond more adequately to its functions and processes.
